Firm ProfilePAUL LUKES: Building Envelope Consulting Services LLC consults in the protection of the building envelope against moisture penetration, weathering damage, movement stresses, and related problems.
The firm consists primarily of Paul Lukes, a registered architect with over 35 years of experience in construction and architecture, whose focus has centered on exterior envelope issues and related technical concerns for over 27 years. To date, Paul has consulted on roughly 800 construction projects, ranging from wood-framed single-family residences to major brand-new medical centers, creating an un-rivaled concentration of construction expertise within a single mind. Projects span the full spectrum of building uses and construction technologies, including institutional, commercial, and residential buildings, ranging from wood-framed single-family homes to major institutions with post-tensioned concrete structures.
Institutional projects include libraries, public and private schools, university buildings, museums, research facilities, hospitals, religious facilities, courthouses, visitor centers, fire stations and similar municipal facilities, as well as others. Commercial projects have included office buildings, hotels, resorts, retail buildings, production facilities, storage buildings, hangars, pools, corporate structures, and similar buildings. In the residential category, projects include condominium and apartment structures as well as single-family residences. However, within the single-family residential sector, PL:BECS primarily becomes involved with extreme high-end projects, whose typically greater complexity of systems warrants highly technical input. A very large majority of single-family projects fall in the multi-million dollar range, though most of these can not be included in this brochure due to strict client confidentiality restrictions. |
PL:BECS also provides non-project specific consultation and lectures to construction industry professionals, such as architects, general and specialty contractors, institutional and commercial building owners, University classes, and similar entities in various aspects pertaining to building envelope integrity.
In addition to consulting on the design of new projects and evaluating problems with existing ones, PL:BECS also provides services such as construction dispute resolution and litigation support related to construction problems, on behalf of building owners, architects, general and specialty contractors, and other construction professionals. Project locations, though somewhat concentrated in the Pacific Northwest, span all climate zones throughout North America and other parts of the globe, including, as of 2009, Africa and Asia. American project locations have included frigid Shelburne in Vermont, hot and humid Washington DC, cold and humid Chicago, arid Salt Lake City and Mammoth Lakes, snowy Denver, the foggy, salt-laden and corrosive environments of San Francisco and Washington’s Pacific Coast, hot and humid Hawaii, Alaska’s cold and rainy Ketchikan and Juneau, etc. Over the nearly three decades of consulting in this specialty, PL:BECS has built an impeccable reputation for technical expertise, thoroughness, and integrity. We look forward to working with you. |
